While
reading The Moon and More, I watch Emaline's senior year go by without
her really experiencing a lot of high school. I also have the privilege of watching
Melamine try to balance her past, future, and families’ burdens. Emaline has
struck me as a round character because her personality and outlook on many
things matures.
"Another satisfied customer, I thought, as I walked back to my car. This was why I'd been working pretty much whenever I could lately. I needed distractions, problems I could easily solve. Wild cats were never ideal, but now, I'd gladly take them." -Emaline
While
Emaline's summer is coming to an end, all she really is worried about is her
boyfriend Luke. The sad thing is that she is becoming bored with him. Although
Luke fits the description of a perfect boyfriend, Emaline begins to grow
curious about the new boy Theo. Theo is a little different and draws Emaline
with his art and tattoos. It seems to be Emaline is only worried about doing
good things to others and worrying about herself and her future. I love how
Emaline begins to branch out and each time she tries new things, she wants
more. Emaline ends up with resenting her mother and step family only to become more
proud of herself. When the plot advances, Emaline grows more confident and
happy. This makes me happy because I can clearly see her change in attitude
therefore giving her confidence to stand up for herself.
