Unexpected

             Recently I have started reading a book called Unexpected by Jess Smith. The book is a little laid back but still very interesting and that's what makes me interested in what I read. The main character is Katrina, and she has been running away from an abusive ex-boyfriend. I don't know why, but I always tend to read and enjoy books much more when they are sappy romance novels. So far, Katrina has had a run in with her ex, Brian, and was luckily saved by a passing bystander Nash. Nash was very helpful to Katrina and offered her a house and money and even a job when he discovered what type of life she lived after giving her a ride home from her attack. The kindness of Nash and the stubbornness of Katrina seems to be working out into a blooming romance.

               Now I know this book may sound wayyy to cheesy but I love reading stuff like this. Something about the way the book is written and the constant plot twist and bad moments keep me intrigued. Each cliff-hanger at the end of a chapter make me just want to keep on reading and help  me really get deeply into these books. The sad thing about reading romance novels is sometimes the characters start having large issues and the unexpected happens. Like in another book I read called After, the two "lovebirds" had a confrotation sending the girl into a major depression that took up the last almost 20 chapters. I am realluy scared that something along the lines of the plot of After could soon happen in Unbroken because things have been going very smoothly in Katrina and Nash's flirtationship. I have called it a flirtationship because they are slowly inching their way to a real dating relationship instead of just calling themselves friends. The title of this book also infers some type of tension.

Fahrenheit 451: Clarisse

Ray Bradbury has created a peculiar character named Clarisse is his novel Fahrenheit 451. Clarisse befriends the main character Montag while he is walking home one night from his job as a fireman. Clarisse is described and very ghostly thin, wearing a white dress what matches her pale skin and white hair. Yet despite her dark eyes and hollow face she has this gorgeous beauty. Clarisse interests me by making me wonder about what she does and how she seems so different from the other people in her society. Montag feels the same way when he says,

"How odd. How strange. And my wife thirty and yet you seem so much older at times. I can't get over it."
 

Montag and I are trying to piece together Clarisse at the same time. Clarisse seems to have figured out the pieces to the puzzle of society that can't fit perfectly. While riding the jet train she has listened to people only talk about simple things such as cars, clothes, pools, and responding with how swell. When Clarisse shares things with Montag her intelligence throws his perspective of her and his job off. The people in her society seem blank and boring to her world, where everything is in color and has a deeper meaning that the world intends things to have. When Clarisse asks Montag,

"Are you happy?'
 

she causes something to stir inside of him as well as me, playing the role of the reader.  The question immediatly reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. Clarisse being Alice, wandering in her own world of fun and appreciating the small quirky things in life. By asking questions to Montag Clarisse also manages to ask the reader questions that we can relate to our lives today. Her perculiarness draws us into the story, growing deeper with each scene she is present in. Montag even is bewildered when Clarisse begins to dig into him with her questions. When she mentions how he is different from other fire fighters, his mind cannot wrap around hpw she discovered this and her comments and presence will continue to make Montag and readers question their own actions.

Favorite Authors

I would love to recommend some more of my favorite authors very popular novels. This is because I want oter high school students to be able to enjoy the writing as well. I recommend all Sarah Dessen books to all girls interested in romance and feel good stories. I recommend all Nicholas Sparks books because of the sappy romance and the warm feelin one experiences while reading one of his heart throb novels. I would also recommend all the Harry Potyer books and the Hunger Games books because they are long books filled with suspense an action. 

Setting

The beach town of Colby is a perfect setting for The Moon and More because it strongly shows how simple and happy everyone in the town is when Emaline is miserable. Emaline just wants to show all of the tourists that the town is nothing special and is in fact holding people back. The good part of the town is it teaches Emaline how being positive and making the best out of life and every little precious moment can help her out in life. So this modern beach location resculptures Emaline's perspective into something along the lines of grateful. The mood of the novel changes for the better and Emaline is able to make her own decisions. 

Movies and Books

I am happy to say I have started the notebook and read about a third of it before bed last night. I loved the movie yet the book is so much more intriguing. I am usually one to enjoy the movie more than the book. I believe the movie did portray Nicholas Sparks' novel in a very close matter and so far I have not cried while reading the book just yet.

New Book

I have decided to read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This book has drawn my interest to it because of the wonderful movie and how all of my friends coo and drool over this lovestory. I have a weak spot for adorable love stories. Whenever I can get ahold of a book that I enjoy, I can finish it within a few days. Therefore I will Probably have this book finished by Monday. My next novel will take me into the next trimester and I'm pretty sure it will be another Nicholas Sparks book like The Lucky One.

Recommendation

I would recommend any of Sarah Dessen's novels. They are all based around a main character which is usually a girl and the settings are in this adorable little beach town. The plots can become insanely complicated or really simple with one major conflict. Romance is also present is most of the stories making each one perfect for any teenage girl. Sarah Dessen also explores all types of personalities and interests for her characters. So you can easily find a relatable character.

Some of my favorite Dessen books are Along for the Ride, The Moon and More, keeping The Moon,
Lock and Key, and Someone Like You. I would recommend these to anyone that likes a simple yet interesting and fun book that any teenage girl can relate to and understand.
