Blog Assignment #1

 

I believe my best blog post is Unexpected Change in Unexpected. This was published on April 7^th. I put my best effort in this blog when trying to incorporate my own voice. I use my voice when I describe the main character’s feelings while hiding from her boyfriend in the bathtub, “A situation like this truly scares me and I wonder while reading the book how I would handle something like this should I be in Katrina's place.” This specific example of voice shows how I care deeply for my main character and how she is going to handle this situation. As a writer I hope I can describe the events in Unexpected and make my readers understand what I feel as Katrina goes through her experiences.

            Also while writing my blogs; I try to give the audience as much information as I can without giving away the story. I describe in two or three paragraphs each time the newest twists and turns in the plot and what I hope will happen in the next chapters to come. I keep my word choice like how I normally talk so the blog almost comes off as a comfortable conversation with my readers. This quote from my blog post shows how my voice is present and my diction and syntax is present while explaining the events from my book, “As I continue reading in Unexpected, I was tip-toeing through the last two chapters fearing some sort of drama would start in between Nash and Katrina. Turns out my assumption was right, and Nash did surprise Katrina and I by freaking out one night when he came home from being with his friends.” I also believe that this enhances my voice and makes my blogs worth reading. Using informal diction and medium sentence length strengthens my writing voice as I tell the story of the characters in Unexpected throughout my blogs.

 

Character Development

While reading Unexpected Katrina has become the most devolved character. The story is told from both Nash's and Katrina's point of views, but Nash's views are short chapters. Nash has not shown much emotion other than saying how much he adores Katrina. Katrina shows much more emotion than Nash when she tells about her past life and her confused emotions about Nash and his friends. Katrina is still not being 100% herself around  Nash  because of when he attacked him on the bathroom. But I haven't read that much since my last blog due to time commitments. 

Katrina does aggregate me when she continues to hold Nash's outlast against him. He keeps buying her flowers and trying to apologize saying he won't do it again. If I was in her place I would either leave Nash or forgive him and do my best to move on. 

Katrina seems to be a dynamic character because she is coming out of her Schell and expressing herself more. She has made more friends and is starting to paint to relieve stress. I hope she become comftorable in her environment and most importantly in her own skin. Because she is described to be a beautiful girl who deserves to have confidence. Krista Ramsey

Krista Ramsey's style of writing is informative, yet she also tells a story with it. Her writing highlights everyday stories with facts and a broader topic. Ramsey also includes the harsh truth and puts the facts right out on the table.

 In her one article, speaking about the passing of 14 year-old Tyann she keeps it to a narrator viewpoint while showing sympathy from her grandmother's comments and describing the details of that Saturday morning. Some readers like myself, find articles like these very helpful in understanding about news in the tristate. But I almost feel guilty reading this and finding out the details of something so sad. I feel as if i don't have the right to know this or make assumptions about the scenario. Yet I was curious to discover more about what happened that day when my English teacher first brought it up.

 I respect and like Krista's style of writing when it comes to her columns, I could never write about something like this. I wouldn't be able to hold my ground during an interview. Or i could do something worse and make my column sound biased. Often times I sit and picture myself writing, I come up with a brilliant story to write and even write down lists of things I could add to the plot. I started one of those stories a couple weeks ago and I keep disappointing myself. I have been taught from a very young age to set very high expectations for myself and to follow through with everything you start. So when I start to write and my writing isn't looking the way I want, I stop. Our of pure dissatisfaction.

 I wish I could learn how to write just to inform and entertain like Krista Ramsey. I feel like I would write more often and be proud that I was being a help for others and readers.

Nash changing?

As I continue reading  Unexpected I have begun to keep worrying about Katrina's relationship am trust in Nash. So after Nash chased her through their home and banged on the door screaming at her because he was mad she wanted to leave a rave, Katrina fell asleep in the bathtub. She woke up still in the bathtub and Nash was asleep on the other side of the door. Katrina let Nash apologize but didn't say one word to him the whole day. He just continued to baby her and make her food and let her cuddle with him. Katrina didn't talk because she was scared and confused about Nash's actions the night before. 

If I was placed in Katrina's position I would be doing the exact same thing, I probably would have already left and run far far away from him. But I can understand why Katrina is staying with Nash, probably because she feels safe at his big home and is already running from one ex-boyfriend. I would have just stayed or lived in the basement and let the relationship between me and Nash dwindle if he did this again. Because everyone gets mad, but when things get talked to an abusive level that's when they get serious. So I hope Katrina makes her future decisions like I would because If she doesn't I will loose interest in Unexpected very quickly, that is only because I want the best for my relationships in my cheesy teenage novels. 

Unexpected turn in Unexpected!

As I continue reading in Unexpected, I was tip-toeing through the last two chapters fearing some sort of drama would start in between Nash and Katrina. Turns out my assumption was right, and Nash did suprise Katrina and I by freaking out one night when he came home from being with his friends. Katrina was ignoring Nash because of his behavior during the day, but Nash surprised her by screaming at her and becoming very close to hitting her. Nash chased her all the way upstairs into the bathroom where Katrina locked herself in and slept in the bathtub. The sad and ironic part about Nash's recent behavior is that Katrina has just run away from her ex-boyfriend who was very abusive.
Katrina begins to panic as she hides from Nash's rage,

"leave me alone Nash! You're overreacting!" frantically looking for a place to hide. His footsteps pounding around the hallway and I sat silently in the tub, praying he wouldn't hurt me. I'm terrified of what might happen, because I know boys are capable of faking their nice guy attitude and suddenly snapping."

I really feel horrible for Katrina when she is in this position with Nash because I have never experienced pain like this. A situation like this truly scares me and I wonder while reading the book how I would handle something like this should I be in Katrina's place. I hope that Nash calms down and truly isn't like this especially to her after she just ran away from her ex-boyfriend. I wish i could give Katrina a hug right now because she is so scared and ends up cutting her foot very badly on glass from a picture Nash threw at her while she was running. But i also wonder how Nash will act in the next chapter towards Katrina. Hopefully something very very good will come out of this incident and I wonder if Katrina will take Nash back if he apologizes. But I do know for a fact that I am addicted to Unexpected, because everything is unexpected!
